A thoughtfully designed backyard training area with a medium-sized dog standing confidently on a stable wooden platform, tail relaxed and head slightly raised as if listening. The dog’s coat is short and glossy, a mix of warm brown and white, muscles subtly defined under natural light. Around the platform, the grass is neatly trimmed and bordered by low native shrubs, with a few clearly spaced training cones and a folded long line resting nearby. The late-afternoon golden hour sun casts warm, directional light, creating soft, elongated shadows and a gentle glow along the dog’s outline. Photographic realism with a slightly low angle and moderate depth of field keeps the dog and platform crisp while the foliage softens in the background. The mood is confident, optimistic, and grounded in real-life environments.

About Both Sides of the Leash

Helping Dog Owners Create Lasting Change on Both Sides of the Leash

If you’ve ever felt frustrated, overwhelmed, or like you’ve tried everything and nothing is working with your dog, you’re not alone.

Many dog owners are told they just need more training, more commands, or more consistency. While training can be an important piece of the puzzle, I’ve found that lasting change happens when we look at the whole picture —including the human holding the leash.

That’s the foundation of Both Sides of the Leash.

I believe that dog behavior isn’t just about what the dog is doing. It’s about communication, leadership, trust, routines, environment, and the relationship between you and your dog. When those pieces come together, behavior becomes easier to understand and change.

Meet your Coach

Hi, I’m Jenna.

I’ve spent nearly my entire life around dogs and have a special passion for helping owners navigate the challenges that come with complex, stubborn, reactive, and misunderstood dogs.

As the owner of two wolfdogs, I’ve experienced firsthand what it’s like to live with dogs that don’t always fit the traditional training mold. I’ve learned that every dog is different, and what works for one may not work for another.

My background includes studies in psychology, human behavior, dog behavior, leadership, conflict resolution, communication, and years of hands-on experience working with dogs. This unique combination allows me to help people understand not only what their dog is doing, but why it’s happening and how they can create meaningful lasting change.

An overhead photographic view of a carefully arranged dog behavior planning workspace on a smooth, light-wood table. At the center lies an open notebook displaying a hand-drawn behavior chart with arrows and neatly written cues and rewards. Beside it, color-coded sticky notes label common behavior goals, while a slim tablet shows a paused video frame of a dog in a relaxed posture. A flat, braided leash, a closed treat pouch, and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones are placed with intentional spacing around the notebook. Soft, diffused daylight from an unseen window illuminates the scene evenly, avoiding harsh reflections and creating a calm, organized atmosphere. The composition is balanced and minimalist, with sharp focus across the frame. The mood is thoughtful, strategic, and professional, emphasizing planning and structure behind effective behavior change.
A tidy training space featuring a padded, non-slip mat in muted blue, with a single well-worn tug toy placed neatly at its center and a stainless-steel clicker and treat pouch arranged nearby. Along the back wall, low wooden shelves hold organized storage bins, leashes, and neatly stacked training books labeled with behavior topics. The room’s walls are soft white with one accent wall in a calming sage green. Diffused daylight streams in through a high window, creating even, shadow-soft lighting that feels open and inviting. Photographic realism, captured from a slightly elevated angle with sharp focus throughout, emphasizing order and clarity. The atmosphere is professional, structured, and encouraging, representing a clear, supportive environment for behavior change and learning.
